9/25/15: Finished: Legio Ignis Mars Alpha Pattern Warlord Titan Commission

Holy smokes!

Sorry for the lack of posts the last two months! Smells Like Wargaming is still chugging away, some computer issues and ease of use caused the blog here to slip to the bottom of the pile! I've got a backlog of stuff to show off, but this time, we've got the big kahuna himself!

Taking three weeks from cleaning to completion, this model was easily the biggest and my favorite model I've ever completed! I'll let the photos speak for me though!

What a beast! I'd love to work on another one, or even a Warhound or Reaver! If you're looking to get your titan painted, or army, for that matter, drop me an email at SmellsLikeWargaming at Hotmail dot com, and we'll get you sorted!

I'll be catching up on posts this weekend, but I'll be on a short vacation towards the end of the week for a much needed rest! Next up is White Scars, Mechanicum, and some big big tanks!

6/24/15: Showcase: Imperial Fists Deimos Pattern Predator

Howdy folks!

Sorry for the lack of posts, I got a wonderful summer illness that threw a whole bunch of delays in my plans! I'm also working on a set of blood Bowl teams at the moment, but I figured I'd break them up with a mini project! A buddy of mine picked it up for me to paint as part of a trade we did. I always love working on some Forge World vehicles, so I happily obliged!

All weapon options are magnetized, from the heavy bolter/Lascannon sponsons, to the 4 turret choices. I personally love the look of the Plasma Executioner, couple it with 2 Lascannon shots and you've got overkill written all over it! The hatch also comes off to allow for Sergeant Chronus, who I'll be wrapping up for the tank in a bit! Such a lovely kit, even if Predators are hard to justify these days! The last picture shoes it's current state, which is immolating cultists in the fury of a dying sun!

As I said next up is two Blood Bowl teams, I'm very excited to show these off! After that is Drop Pods, Iron Hands, and Infinity! OH MY!

3/16/15: #MiniatureMonday One

Howdy folks!

Today is the first part of a new weekly series called #miniaturemonday, since I'm all over the social medias, why not bring that enthusiasm to the blog! Also posting from the phone, so we'll see what that does to the picture placement!

This #MiniatureMonday, we've got three projects to show off! First is the new Plastic Bloodthirster getting the ol' Smells Like Wargaming treatment! Love the model, so glad it got an update! The sinew on the axe needs a little touch up, and obviously he's missing his whip, but he should be done and for sale by the end of the week!

Secondly is the White Scars commission I've been working on here in the studio. Slow and steady with the white, I still have to finish the crew in the Storm, as well as complete three centurions, a Bike command squad, and the Space Marine captain to go with it all. Goal is to be done Friday with that, the client also commissioned a Knight, be I'm still waiting on some info before I get started!

Last, but not least, is the newest toy for my Imperial Fists, a bouncing bad ass Storm Eagle! I got this in a trade cheap from a buddy who'd gotten it on eBay, and boy oh boy, was it in bad shape! Some Smells Like Wargaming magic, and it's ripping and rearing to go! I included the picture of how lopsidedly built it was when I got it!

Still have a very busy week ahead, bit expect to see all these guys finished very soon ď

Thanks folks!

2/16/15: Showcase: Questoris Knight Styrix Commission

Howdy folks!

Yet another Knight to add to the portfolio! I think I've done almost 30 now...I'll have to check...anywho, this one joins the Legio Titanicus/House Raven army I've been doing pieces for since May of last year. This client now has a warhound, 3 magnetized plastic Knights, and all five Forge World Knights! Not an army to scoff at!

The completed beast in all his glory!

'Grimaud' comes from the Three Musketeers, and follows the naming system for the rest of the army!

Left shoulderpad detail; if you're doing a lot of Knights, its definitely worth picking up the Iron Hands transfer sheet from Forge World. The skull and cog icon are from that sheet, and it definitely helps with the Mechanicum feel of the model!

Right shoulderpad detail; the sword decal is from the Eldar transfer sheet.

Really happy with the basing, the pieces are a mix of the Garden of Morr kit and the Arcane Ruins kit.

Some fall ivy was added to draw the eye and add some extra detail to the rest of the model!

Supported by House Hawkshroud and the Imperial Fists 1st Company, the Styrix stalks the ruined streets.

I'll have to do a full head count, but I'm certain I've done two dozen Knights since they dropped last year. Not that I'm complaining, I love the kit!

Tomorrow, I'll be dropping the results of Genghis Con; very good showing this year! Also have some Malifaux to start, as well as some other projects!

Stay tuned!

1/17/15: Finished: Imperial Fists Tarantula Turret Sentry

Hey folks!

Like a lot of you, I love Forge World models. I've done everything from basic infantry to Titans, and its always a lot of fun to work on. I especially love the models you don't see very often! A couple weeks ago, I had to order a transfer sheet from FW for an upcoming commission, and as I had a little extra spending money, I decided to pick up something small for my Imperial Fists. Obviously, I decided on the Tarantula!

I'd never seen one in person, so I was a little surprised when it arrived!

You get the base, then the...wait...Space Marine Razorback turret? I'd never paid enough attention to those, but its simply the turret added to a base!

Washed, assembled, based, and sprayed. For my yellows, I prime black, then airbrush the lower areas of the model with brown. Once dry, I spray white. Lastly, I spray the yellow, which coats well thanks to the white, and shades thanks to the brown. I use a lot of weathering powders for shading and effects, so the model got 3 or 4 coats of varnish.

And the completed model! About an hour from start to finish, this piece was incredibly fun to work on! Though the rules aren't amazing for normal 40k, I'd gladly run these in smaller games or even Zone Mortalis!

I'll have to get pictures of the Fists here soon, I'm starting to wrap them up, though there's still plenty of models I want to get for them!

Next up are more Imperial Knights, some Eagle Warriors, and a hodgepodge of other models!

Stay tuned!

12/17/14: Finished: Iron Hands Storm Eagle

Howdy folks!

Been keeping busy this week, especially with the holidays approaching, but I've still found time to get paint on models! I've got a Brother Captain Stern I finished for a friend I should be posting in a day or two, but this time, we've got a Storm Eagle, done in Iron Hands livery! Lots of fun working on this guy, even if assembling these bad boys are a pain in the ass!

The monster is already laying the smack down on some Nurgle Chaos Marines!

Opted for a purple accent color on this bad boy, along with white to help break up all the black.

Games Workshop needs to get on making some Iron Hands transfers; as much as I love the Forge World ones, some easier to obtain ones would be so much nicer!

Gotta love those Rhino doors!

I had a lot of fun working on this model, though black isn't necessarily my first choice for an overarching color theme!

I've got the rest of this month on the slower side due to the holidays, but I've got a couple personal projects I want to try and get through in that time. Expect some little one-off projects and things in the next two weeks!

Stay tuned too, I'm going to try and start running more contests and things through my social media outlets! Very exciting!

11/16/14: Finished: Vulkan, Primarch of the Salamanders

For the God-Emperor!

I've loved Forge World's Primarch models; personally I'm waiting for Rogal Dorn, but I love Horus and Angron so far, and the other ones are still beautiful models. That's why, when I got the chance to work on Vulkan, I jumped on the project!

And, let me tell you, he's a beast!

The model is three major pieces; Vulkan on a 40mm base, the 60mm scenic base, and a pillar piece that conceals the back of the 40mm base on the scenic base.

Vulkan is DRIPPING with detail! I opted for a redish maroon leather color to compliment the green, and I did most of the details in either bone or brass; only the shoulderpad got a painted flame instead.

I love working on skintones and faces, and his is beautiful. Forge World's detail is mind-blowing!

Vulkan wears that cloak so well!

And, for those of you interested, here's a scale shot next to one of my Assault Terminators. Even Terminators look tiny next to him!

And the scenic base! I wanted to have two fallen Salamanders on the base, rather than traitor marines, to give the scene a sense of danger and urgency, like Vulkan is stepping down to save his children.

Lots of weathering powder give everything a dusty, urban grit feel!

I can't wait to work on more Primarchs, I've got a Horus coming soon, and I'm in talk about another primarch, so stay tuned for more!

10/22/14: Finished: Legio Metalica Reaver Titan 'Animus Denudator'

Howdy folks!

Got a very exciting commission to show off this time! Client wanted his new Reaver Titan done in Legio Metalica colors with some Mechanicus constructs wandering about the battlefield on his base. He also needed him for a game on the 25th, so I had to kick on the burners and get this bad boy done in a week! Pretty good for the timeframe, methinks!

Client got two Laser Blasters, a Gatling Blaster, and the Apocalypse Missile Launcher arms. They're all magnetized for any loadout!

The Thallax at his feet is magnetized, in case the client wants to use him instead of leave him as base decor.

My favorite part is the carapace, the heraldry with the name turned out perfect, if I do say so myself!

Yeah, doesn't look so intimidating now. The flight stand doesn't even come up to his knee!

And his foot is the size of a Rhino!

Lots of fun with the freehand on this one!

Now, just remember, when you're having a bad day, you could be wired into the ceiling of a titanic walker!

I wish I could have had more time to work on this guy, but deadlines are deadlines sometimes! Taking a day or two to rest my brain, then its back to work! Armies on Parade is this Saturday, and I have some minor touchups to do on the Chaos Marines, but next on the table is some Warmachine and some Salamander Space Marines!

Stay tuned!
