3/16/15: #MiniatureMonday One

Howdy folks!

Today is the first part of a new weekly series called #miniaturemonday, since I'm all over the social medias, why not bring that enthusiasm to the blog! Also posting from the phone, so we'll see what that does to the picture placement!

This #MiniatureMonday, we've got three projects to show off! First is the new Plastic Bloodthirster getting the ol' Smells Like Wargaming treatment! Love the model, so glad it got an update! The sinew on the axe needs a little touch up, and obviously he's missing his whip, but he should be done and for sale by the end of the week!

Secondly is the White Scars commission I've been working on here in the studio. Slow and steady with the white, I still have to finish the crew in the Storm, as well as complete three centurions, a Bike command squad, and the Space Marine captain to go with it all. Goal is to be done Friday with that, the client also commissioned a Knight, be I'm still waiting on some info before I get started!

Last, but not least, is the newest toy for my Imperial Fists, a bouncing bad ass Storm Eagle! I got this in a trade cheap from a buddy who'd gotten it on eBay, and boy oh boy, was it in bad shape! Some Smells Like Wargaming magic, and it's ripping and rearing to go! I included the picture of how lopsidedly built it was when I got it!

Still have a very busy week ahead, bit expect to see all these guys finished very soon ď

Thanks folks!

7/13/14: Finished: Khorne/Slaanesh Word Bearers Daemons Detachment

Hey guys!

Been a lot of daemonic forces crossing the paint table over the last couple of weeks, both commission and personal! I'll share my new Nurgle guys soon but, for now, this post is for the commissioned group! This group consisted of:

  • Skarbrand (Made from the FW Bloodthirster)
  • Skull Cannon of Khorne (WHFB Hellcannon conversion)
  • 28 Daemonettes (The old Juan Diaz ones!)
  • Daemon Prince of Slaaneshi/Keeper of Secrets (Raging Heroes Asharah model)
  • 2 FW Renegade Psykers

Enough chit chat though, pictures!

Skarbrand! I received the model with an average paintjob. My client had me clean him up, rebase him, tarnish the wings, and sculpt a new axe.

I tarnished the brass with Nihlakh Oxide; it really compliments the red skintone and the green eyes.

The axe was built with cardstock, plasticard, and greenstuff. Not my best sculpting job, but it works!

The wings were tarnished with a dremel tool, and the edges were greenstuffed to show the old torn leather hanging off. The wings weren't totally destroyed so my client can run him as Skarbrand, a stock Bloodthirster, or Angraath.

The Juan Diaz Daemonettes. These were all secondhand models; they were stripped, rebased, and cleaned up rather nicely!

Just wonderful models!

That's a lot of death right there....

The first renegade psyker. Really creepy model, he painted up really quickly and to good effect!

Even threw a little script on the back for extra detail!

This is the second time I've gotten to paint this model, so it was really nice to come back and play with it again.

Even went for a skull tearing effect to really make the psyker look desperate.

The Skull Cannon of Khorne! Really interesting conversion, the hounds are Barghests from Puppets War, the cannon is a Hellcannon from Fantasy, and the rider is from the Chaos Warshrine!

Wanted to go for a glowing blood look, complimented with the greens of the rest of the army.

TO WAR!

The Slaaneshi Daemon Prince! I'm sure she'd double nicely as a Keeper of Secrets too! The model is the limited edition Asharah model from Raging Heroes with the Terminator Lord familiar on the base.

The reds tie her back into the Word Bearers, as does the green on the book. Even opted for some tattoos and streaks in the hair to add to the Slaaneshi feel.

The pictures don't show it, but the Daemonettes also got flames on their loinclothes. I feel this really added needed detail to the model, and looks great too!

And the little familiar! The client had wanted to use the hand holding the book on the Daemon Prince, but preferred the sword and lash, so I still tried to work the book into the model!

And the finished group!

The Daemons of Slaanesh clash with Nurgle's chosen!

Alrighty! Next up are a trio of Wraithknights, more Imperial Knights, some Necrons, and another addition to the first Legio Titanicus commission I completed back in May! Will have some pictures of my new Nurgle daemons too! Whew!

Stay tuned and keep painting!

4/5/14: Finished: Khorne Lord of Skulls

Hey folks!

Man, its been a busy week! Been working on the next set of terrain for Good Games, but I knew I needed another project to keep me occupied. Having just finished the Knight, I set my sights on another Superheavy I'd had sitting on my shelf unpainted for quite some time! Now, a lot of people don't like the model, but I'm rather fond of it; what's more daemonic engine than a Berserker Centaur tank that spits blood? That's what I thought!

Anyways, I broke out the airbrush, got him primed, and set to work!

The beast in all his glory! Unlike the Knight, this model has a LOT of trim. I started with the red and the glow effects, then started masking off said red to do the brass.

I opted for a dark, foreboding look to the piece. He is a Daemon Engine, after all!

The brass was sprayed gold, then washed with Agrax, Nuln Oil, Carroberg Crimson, and a touch of Druchii Violet. Once dry, I gently sponged both gold and chainmail to brighten it back up. Once dry, I gently dusted select areas with Nihlakh Oxide; after spraying it on the model, I ran my finger across it to settle it in the recesses, and give a patina look. This is an ancient terror, after all!

The blood tanks are all at different levels, and I tried to simulate depth and splashes in them as well.

I opted to do the skulls all over the model as brass, rather than actual bone color. It sped things up, yes, but also adds to the eeriness of the model to actually blend them into the rest of the armor.

The dozerblade was done like the rest of the brass, and a glow effect was added at the vents for an added creepy level!

This guy's a beast in game, that's why I'd originally got him. Lots of flamer templates (and a torrent Flamestorm from the gut cannon), a D Chainaxe, and an AP2 skull cannon that forces rerolled armor saves! Buh-Bye Terminators! He also gains extra attacks for each Hull Point lost; if I recall correctly, a Lord of Skulls with 1 HP left has something like 12 D weapon attacks in Close Combat! Ouch!

I had a ton of fun with this model, but I'd rather see him go to a home that'd actually play him, so he'll be hitting the auction block, much like the Knight (Listing HERE). I've got other projects I want to paint next! Maybe a Forge World Great Unclean One....hmmmm...

Anyways, back to terrain! Should hopefully be done next week, but its going to be one hell of an April, so stay tuned!
