10/14/15: Showcase: SLW's Studio Renegade Guard Army WIP

"This day, we dedicate our lives to the masters.
This day, we dedicate our deaths to their cause.
This day, we dedicate our souls to the eternal glory of the abyss.
This day, we rise!"
-Mariak Soth, Invokator of the Cult of the Exquisite Corpse

Greetings warriors of the abyss! After selling my personal Imperial Fists army, I knew I had to jump into a project I'd been dying to work on for years and years! I've always been a fan of the Imperial Guard. Lots of tanks, massed infantry, the order system, everything just had a narrative feel to it. I'm a total sucker for the Gaunt's Ghosts books for that reason! My first army was Imperial Guard, and I knew it was time to redo that army with the skills and tricks I've acquired over the last five years of painting. This time, though, they took on a darker side....

The Renegade Command Squad, led by the brutal tyrant Ornifex Zaan, on left. Not shown is the standard bearer, who still needs to get his standard painted!

Doubling as either a Company Commander or an Arch-Demagogue, Zaan here is a brutal looking miniature, and reminds me a lot of the ghouls from Fallout! His adjunctant is the limited edition Warlord Princeps from Forge World, and is used as a Regimental Advisor. I also have the limited edition Navigator to work as an Astropath.

The Rogue Psyker Tru'ul; I opted for a sickly, pallid flesh tone to really give him a corpse-like look. Even the decapitated psyker head at his belt looks more lively than he does! He works as a Rogue Psyker or a Primaris Psyker, depending on the ruleset.

Last time I did Guard, there were no plastic Ogryn! If you're not running ogryn, you're missing out on a fun, hard-hitting unit! I also have another box that will become standard Ogryn, and both units will get a Taurox to ride around in.

The big centerpiece unit for the army is a renegade Malcador! While I love the model, its actually smaller than I expected, and I question its Superheavy status! Opted for 3 Lascannons and the Battle Cannon for extra armor destroying goodness!

Plenty of heretical runes and glyphs adorn the tank!

'Hail Zaan and his glorious new regime!"

The renegade brass etch is wonderful, and really adds that extra detail to the tanks. The Malcador comes with both Imperial and Renegade crew, and I'm sure the Imperial one will end up in a commission project very soon!

Side shot of the command chimera. Lots of weathering, lots of dust and grit. When the army's done I'll show off more angles.

Side shot of the Platoon command's chimera.

The first Taurox; while I can't run them in the Renegades list in IA13, these are great little transports for Veterans and Ogryn in the standard codex!

And what would a Guard army be without some Leman Russ! I have a second one that required a lot of cleanup and conversion work, and the goal overall is to add a third armed with a Demolisher Cannon!

On the workbench I've got 30 Infantry, as well as some heavy weapons teams, 30 Veterans (I'll be using renegade Death Korps for them) as well as some enforcers and a Platoon command. I'm booked until mid 2016 though, so we'll see when the next update on them is!

6/18/15: Showcase: For Sale Astra Militarum Cadian Baneblade

Howdy folks!

Getting my Blogger game back on track! Will hopefully keep this pace going from now on, this is just as important as Facebook and Instagram!

This was a fun little repaint project I got a sudden urge to work on one night. I'd wanted to test out some basic camo effects with the airbrush, but painter's tape doesn't get that nice organic shape and I didn't have any masking putty. Cue a 1 AM run to our local grocery store for play doh! Worked the charm I'd say, and allowed me to focus on decal work and basic weathering. I also pulled an old Forge World Chimera Tank commander model out of my bits box and got him in the hatch!

As you can see by the title, this model is for sale; you can find the eBay auction HERE! As much as I want to do a Tank heavy Guard army at the moment, I've got too many projects as it is, so this guy is on the chopping block!

Up next is some Blood Bowl teams, as well as some work on my personal Imperial Fists army! Trying to get that Strike Force Ultra formation going....

3/16/15: #MiniatureMonday One

Howdy folks!

Today is the first part of a new weekly series called #miniaturemonday, since I'm all over the social medias, why not bring that enthusiasm to the blog! Also posting from the phone, so we'll see what that does to the picture placement!

This #MiniatureMonday, we've got three projects to show off! First is the new Plastic Bloodthirster getting the ol' Smells Like Wargaming treatment! Love the model, so glad it got an update! The sinew on the axe needs a little touch up, and obviously he's missing his whip, but he should be done and for sale by the end of the week!

Secondly is the White Scars commission I've been working on here in the studio. Slow and steady with the white, I still have to finish the crew in the Storm, as well as complete three centurions, a Bike command squad, and the Space Marine captain to go with it all. Goal is to be done Friday with that, the client also commissioned a Knight, be I'm still waiting on some info before I get started!

Last, but not least, is the newest toy for my Imperial Fists, a bouncing bad ass Storm Eagle! I got this in a trade cheap from a buddy who'd gotten it on eBay, and boy oh boy, was it in bad shape! Some Smells Like Wargaming magic, and it's ripping and rearing to go! I included the picture of how lopsidedly built it was when I got it!

Still have a very busy week ahead, bit expect to see all these guys finished very soon ď

Thanks folks!

3/4/15: Showcase: For Sale House Terryn Knight Titan

Howdy folks!

After selling the Nurgle army, I picked up some fun projects to work on in between commissions and in my spare time (since when do I have spare time?!) Of course, I had to get a Knight! This is now the 24th Knight I've done since the kit came out last March, and I'm not sick of them yet! Enough chit-chat, more pictures!

The House Terryn Knight in all his glory! It's been a while since I painted House Terryn, but its always fun!

Of course, both guns are magnetized for max optimization!

Detail on the lower legs and tabard. The Tabard iconography was taken from the Knight transfer sheet, the Baneblade transfer sheet, and the Ork transfer sheet, of all places!

The cog symbol was stenciled on, while the aquila comes from the Knight transfer sheet. Gotta love the primary color theme on House Terryn; that red, yellow, and blue really looks nice all together!

The white horse icon really pops on the Knights!

The top carapace detail, complete with lens effect on the cockpit window!

Look at that, he's barely dry and he's already out questing with my House Hawkshroud Knight! The rascal!

For those interested parties, the eBay listing can be found here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291398613919?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649

As usual, sorry for being so bad at updating the blog; obviously Smells Like Wargaming is still going at full speed, I just end up on my other social medias more! Next up is a White Scars detachment, lots of Tau, and more Space Marines, amongst other things!

Stay tuned!

2/12/15: Showcase: For Sale Nurgle Chaos Space Marines Army

Howdy folks!

So I finally found some time to wrap up this army! I picked up a big group of Nurgle models before I moved from Durango last April; one half became my Gold-winning Armies on Parade force, while the second half turned into this! An amalgamation of secondhand and spare models, this group of ragtag models turned into a great looking army, if I do say so myself!

[eBay link goes here] I'm asking $1250 OBO for this army, which includes free shipping anywhere in the continental US. If you're interested in adding this army to your collection, please drop me an email at SmellsLikeWargaming at Hotmail dot com, and we'll hash something out!

The entire army comes in at 2200 points, and consists of:

-Typhus
-Chaos Terminator Sorcerer
-3 Nurgle Terminators
-Nurgle Land Raider
-20 Nurgle Cultists, perfect for running as zombies!
-Two 6 man Plague Marine Squads with Rhinos
-Nurgle Heldrake
-Nurgle Helbrute with Plasma Cannon
-Nurgle Forgefiend
-Nurgle Predator

Obviously, the terrain and Imperial Fists aren't included with the army! I had a lot of fun with this force, and it was a great way to practice using my airbrush and get an army painted! I'm just always looking for new and exciting armies to paint! Add this army to your collection today!

1/22/15: For Sale: The Sanguinor

Howdy folks!

So like I've said, one of my big New Year's goals on the hobby side is to work through all my old, extra models and give them a purpose. Whether or not they make it into one of my larger projects, get shelved, or get sold depends on the piece!

This time around, I decided to get an old Sanguinor model I got secondhand years ago painted and ready for the tabletop! All my personal projects usually end up as practice projects too, so I opted for a general speed paint with an emphasis on actual metallic paints, as I've always seen those as an area I can improve on!

The beast! I opted for a Black Legion shoulderpad on his base to add narrative and theme.

Lots of fun with the little fiddly scrollwork! Easily my favorite part!

Lots of gems and icons everywhere! The sword was airbrushed; not my best turnout on a sword, but it does its job and compliments the large amount of red and warm golds on the model.

The Sanguinor ascends to crush the forces of chaos!

As stated in the title, this model is for sale! I'm going to leave him on my various social medias and here on the blog before opting for eBay. I'm asking $60 for him, which includes shipping to anywhere in the continental US! I do ship internationally, but we'll have to adjust for shipping costs! Sons of Baal, give this angelic monster a loving home to crush the enemies of Sanguinius! For Baal! For the Primarch!

8/25/14: Finished: For Sale Grey Knights Army

Howdy folks!

Its been quite a bit since I posted anything over here! Its not because I haven't been busy, I've just been neglecting the blog! Bad Smells Like Wargaming! Bad!

This time though, I took a little time to paint up an army I've had sitting in boxes for a couple of years. I got the better part of a Grey Knights army from my buddy Magilla Gurilla when he was getting out of 40k. With grand plans and ideas...they sat on the shelf...and sat...then moved to a box...then sat some more. But no longer! This army consists of:

  • Kaldor Draigo
  • Castellan Crowe
  • Brotherhood Champion
  • Grey Knights Librarian in Terminator Armor
  • Nemesis Dreadknight with Greatsword and Heavy Psycannon.
  • One 5 man Purifier Squad with two halberds, a Daemonhammer, and two Psycannons.
  • One 5 man Purgation Squad with a halberd and 4 incinerators.
  • Two 5 man Strike Squads with three halberds, 1 Daemonhammer, and a Psycannon.
  • 1 Razorback, perfect for the Purifiers and Crowe (Who is finally an IC!)
Enough chatter though, pictures!

The entire army in all its glory! Sorry for the washout on the Dreadknight, couldn't use the lightbox on that shot!

Brotherhood Champion, done using the Emperor's Champion model with some added bits. Perfect for both small and large point games!

Castellan Crowe, such a beautiful model to work on!

The big daddy himself, Lord Kaldor Draigo! This is the old pewter one too, so no worries on Finecast issues!

Both Crowe and Draigo have their names painted on the back of their cloaks!

The Librarian. Changed his hand from the pistol to a psychic-casting one from the Terminators box.

The Nemesis Dreadknight! Love this model, he's now a beast and perfect for ending your opponent's flying circus of Daemons!

Can't go wrong with a giant sword of death!

First five Terminators/Paladins. The squad is entirely tricked out so Draigo and the Librarian can join with them in Daemonic destruction!

Lots of fun with the faces!

And the other five paladins!

The Banner can represent the Brotherhood Banner or the new relic banner in the book!

Purgation Squad, complete with incinerators galore! They're painted to match the Strike Squads too, so you can swap out Psycannons for Incinerators as your heart pleases!

Every sergeant has freehanding of some kind on their back banner!

Also included are two psilencers, in case you'd prefer to swap them into any of the squads!

Purifiers in all their glory! These guys are designed to join Crowe in the Razorback, and their white gear and white back banner help distinguish them from your Strike Squads.

Speaking of their Razorback! The turret still moves up, down, and rotates, while the Storm Bolter is in place.

Strike Squad #1!

And Strike Squad #2!

Uh oh, the Daemons have shown up! They're still no match for the Emperor's finest though!

I'm asking $1200 OBO for the army, and the eBay listing can be found HERE! You can contact me at SmellsLikeWargaming at hotmail dot com if interested or want more details! I do ship internationally too! Be sure to add this powerful force to your collection today and give them a loving, daemon-banishing home today!

Whew! Alrighty, next up are Necrons and Mechanicus-themed Knight Titans, so I've got my work cut out for me!

Stay tuned!
