2/12/15: Showcase: For Sale Nurgle Chaos Space Marines Army

Howdy folks!

So I finally found some time to wrap up this army! I picked up a big group of Nurgle models before I moved from Durango last April; one half became my Gold-winning Armies on Parade force, while the second half turned into this! An amalgamation of secondhand and spare models, this group of ragtag models turned into a great looking army, if I do say so myself!

10/13/14: Welcome to Fort Hope Armies on Parade Display

Howdy folks!

This is my entry for the upcoming Armies on Parade contest Games Workshop holds every year! Got it done early as an upcoming commission is going to eat all of my time until the event. Enjoy the pictures (and my dining room set) and be sure to leave a comment below!

The access to the LED switches is magnetized for easy concealment and access.

Had a lot of fun with this project, and I'm already constructing some new ideas for next year. Scion kill team, methinks?

6/17/14: Finished: Alpha Legion Heldrake

Hey guys!

So after finishing the Warhound Titan, I figured I could spend a little time getting a project of my own finished. I got my Heldrake about two years ago, soon after the release of the codex and, after magnetizing and building the monster, it sat on my shelf!

Over time, I got a base built for it and got the torso partially painted. Then it went back on the shelf, occasionally melting Dark Eldar Incubi and Marine Devastators before going back to its sad state. No more I say! So I got the wings primed and colored, glued the Baleflamer in (who runs the Hades Autocannon?!), and replaced his base with one from Dragon Forge Designs, to match the other Chaos Marines rocking his bases!

The beast in all his glory! I decided to glue the wings instead of magnetize them, as I'm sick of watching this monstrous beast drag his wings on the ground!

The fleshy areas were painted Sybarite Green and highlighted with a mix of Sybarite Green and Pallid Wych Flesh, and matches the daemonic skintone on the Warp Talons and Helbrutes. The cabling was painted Moot Green and glazed with Waywatcher Green to give it an evil glow.

A little bone for his tale, and the trailing cables continued the Moot Green. 

The underside was airbrushed with VGC Livery Green to give it an eerie, ghastly glow.

Trim, trim, and more trim! If I was a Chaos Lord, I'd sacrifice the Warpsmith responsible! The trim was painted Leadbelcher, washed Nuln Oil, then carefully lined with VGC Silver (I prefer the dropper bottle for my metals), leaving the washed metallic around the rivets and in areas to add depth to the metal.

Lots of freehanding too! That's done like the rest of my Alpha Legion; blocked in with Warpstone Glow, then highlighted with Moot Green. I try to keep the symbols to the Hydra, the XX, and the 'A' with chains motif.

The Dragon Forge Base! The Newspapers were taken from a Massive Voodoo tutorial found HERE; if you don't follow these guys, you're missing out, as their work is inspirational and their tutorials are some of the best on the internet. Its basic newsprint, glued together with matte varnish, touched with some paint to mimic type, and washed. Its a great effect, and I'll be doing it across the rest of my bases before the army is finished!

With this finished project, I'm one step closer to finishing my Alpha Legion! I'd love to see GW make a plastic Chosen kit, but with this, I've got some cultists and my Burning Brand Sorcerer to finish! Dunno if I'll hold onto the army when its finished, but we'll see!

Next up is terrain and Slaanesh/Khorne Daemons! Here's a sneak peek at a 54mm Raging Heroes Asharah being used as a Slaanesh Daemon Prince!

2/8/13: Finished: Chaos Daemon Engine Assembly/Magnetization

Hey guys!

So I wasn't expecting to get a hold of my next two commissions til I got back from Genghis Con, but sure enough, I ran down to work yesterday, and they'd arrived early! Its like Christmas! I got back to the studio and jumped right into these projects! The Wraithknight won't be started until tomorrow or Monday, but I rocked out the Heldrake and the Forgefiend in no time flat! Lets let the photos speak for me though...

It was a quick commission consisting of a Heldrake and a Mauler/Forgefiend. Lets show off the Fiend first, shall we?

The completed Forgefiend, complete with Ectoplasma goodness!

And the Maulerfiend, ready to stomp, smash, and crush his way in the name of the Ruinous Powers!

As you can see, every aspect of the model is magnetized. The body has 1/4"x1/16" magnets on the inside to allow for unrestricted movement in the ball joints. The middle sockets allow for the Lasher Tendrils, Magma Cutters, and even the second set of legs for the Forgefiend. The gun arms have two magnets a piece, allowing you to swap them from the body, as well as change out weapon options.

And everyone's favorite, the Helturke....I mean...Heldrake! This guy magnetizes incredibly easily, so lets show how its done!

The left side of the head is glued to the model, while a magnet, placed at the back of the jaw, allows the halves to fit together. The gun is held in place snugly by the head and requires no magnets. I also magnetized the wings for easy transport; simply a case of trimming down the balljoint on the wings to allow for a magnet, then placing the other one inside the socket on the body, as there wasn't space inside the body ample enough to hold the wings in place. 

Just a quick little project, assembly commissions are fun as I get to build and play with all the cool new models, as well as learn how they go together for future commissions or personal projects! 

Next up, a Craftworld Lugganath Wraithknight, the man responsible for the Horus Heresy, Erebus, and some big ol' baddies fresh from the Spawning Pools of the Hive Mind!

4/8/13: Finished: Heldrake of Nurgle

Hey guys!

So I sat down this weekend and found some time to finish that Nurgle Heldrake commission! I've gotta say, this model is incredibly fun to paint, albeit a tad tedious at times...so much...trim...but I digress...

The client wanted a good ol' fashioned Nurgle theme with a swampy base, so I'll let the pictures tell the story!

His little bony tail is a nice touch on the model, as it adds more color to the piece.

Eye see you! One of three sickly looking eyeballs on the model!

The base was incredibly simple to do. The ground is just black lava, while the swamp was achieved by painting the base the desired green color. After it'd dried, I applied a coat of gloss varnish, followed by a coat of Elmer's White glue. When that had nearly dried, I took the butt of a brush and created ripples and rifts in the water. Finally, a second coat of gloss varnish was applied! The bubbles are a mix of metal BBs and the back end of plastic skulls. The foliage is various Army Painter tufts and the bristles off an old crappy brush!

And, for good measure, a bird's eye view of some unfortunate Guardsmen about to become charred messes!

Whew! The next three weeks are going to be insane, with projects and graduation looming in the distance. But next up is a Valkyrie and some Space Wolves! Stay tuned!
