9/28/13: Finished: Lots and Lots of Terrain!

Hey guys!

So here's what the last week of work has been leading to! I'm really happy with how all this terrain came out, but I'll let my pictures speak for me, as usual! Lets go!

The Shrine of the Aquila. Opted for a NMM-effect on the aquila, I'm really happy with how it turned out.

 The base of the building is an overbrush from dark grey up to white. Everything is then sponged in a light silver to create chipping, then details were added.

 There is a lot of freehand all over the buildings, it really helps to add the urban feel to everything.

 

 

 Personally my favorite piece, the rust is FW weathering powders, and the billboard is the client's business card glued to a piece of plasticard, then a frame was built. Then I masked the picture, painted, and weathered it! Turned out perfectly!

 

  And the interior, lots of weathering powder on this guy, along with my standard freehand. This 'SLW' guy is everywhere!

 The Governor's quarters, the balcony adds a nice touch to the battlefield.

 

Spent some time to get those monitors looking sexy too!

 

 A broken Imperial Basilica, really digging the green with the bronze.

 

You again!

 

 Honored Imperium and Battlefield Accessories. Nothing too crazy, but all the Accessories have waterslides on them to add to the Imperial effect. Its little details like those that will really make your battlefield terrain.

 

More craters. Been there, done that!

 

 There's a set of three forests; first off is an Autumnal grove.

 

 Second is a summertime meadow.

 

 And lastly, a burnt out grove, perfect for Sylvania, the Chaos Wastes, and Armageddon alike!

 

 Added some extra leaves to the bases to make them look more natural.

 

 Look Ma, more freehand!

 

 Veterans of the Cadian 317th hold off cultists in a bombed-out Imperial city.

First time my IG have hit the table in a while!

 

 And High Elves face down the minions of Festus the Leechlord!

Whew! That's a lot of terrain! Like I said, incredibly happy with how it turned out, and the client was just as happy as well! Next up is some more terrain, a little Forge World, and more Elves! Here's a sneak peek at the next group:

 

May be a slow week on the painting front next week, but have no fear, the mojo is in full flow and I've got a lot of stuff coming up!

2/19/13: GenghisCon 2013!

Hey guys!

So GenghisCon 2013 has come and gone and, I gotta say, I can't hardly wait for the next event! I had a ton of fun running around, seeing new armies, new games, grabbing some swag, and chatting up some really great people the whole weekend! 

My biggest event, though, was the painting competition. First painting event, I knew I had a good shot in the competition, and its nice to see my work pay off. I actually talked to one of the judges following the event, and when she told me she pouted when my piece didn't come in first in the Large Model group, I knew I was doing good. I now know what it takes to win some more awards though, so expect some more one-off display based pieces to roll across the desk!

One of the other guys in our group walked away with 3rd Place in the Single Figure piece, so Durango Diceworks showed up and represented in the painting competiton! 

Sunday, though, was the gaming time to shine. Not being a Fantasy player, I just relaxed, watched some games, played messenger, and tried to find some deals in the vendor's hall. Some interesting events transpired though! First off, there was a Fire Alarm about 5 minutes into the second game. Kinda fun to watch a bazillion nerds wander out into the sunlight!

For game two, after everyone won their first games, the entire group got matched up against each other. Talking to the TOs, they changed the match-ups, pitting Mr. RTGamer against a rather nasty Teclis High Elf army! Boo hiss!

Best part though was our youngest player, Andrew, walked away with the Youngbloods award for the tournament! Way to go Andrew! Look out next year guys, there's going to be some stiff competition coming from this young man!

Alrighty! The best part about this weekend was that my Hobby Mojo is back in full swing! We're looking at Tacticon later this year, thinking I can get my Alpha Legion list tweaked, painted, and ready to roll for then, so expect some more Alpha Legion models and some lists to pass by on the blog!

1/31/2013 Their evil twins, Dark Elf Black Guard and some rotten goodness

Hello Folks,

Ryan here.

So my first commission for Smells Like Wargaming is done! 20 Black Guard made from High Elf Phoenix Guard. I'd say that this unit was fun to complete but lets face it after painting 20 Phoenix guard just before Christmas I have to admit that this was a little bit of a slog. However after taking a quick break to paint some of my Blood Bowl team I had renewed enthusiasm and got these guys done!

The use of Wych heads adds to the dark elf nature of the unit. The conversion wasn't that hard either. So, without further ado, I present The Black Guard of Naggarond!

The bases aren't finished because the client is unsure where to go with them. They will be cleaned up before sending though.

So here is what is next on the painting block. A Hellcannon for Warriors of Chaos. Beautiful sculpt. And a quick personal project. Some Nurgle love on my own hero model. Then it is back to more Elves (shudder).

1/16/2013 - The New Guy!

Hello folks,

RTGamer here. Thought I'd give you a little background. I've been in the hobby for almost 15 years and love painting miniatures. Over my time I have played mostly fantasy and only recently started looking out to the round based games.

I enjoy long walks on the beach...  Ermmm ignore that last bit. I am Scottish and I came over to Durango, CO in 2010. In 2013 I am please to be joining with Granesh and providing this service!

In 2013 I will be attending Ghengiscon (in Denver) and in true style I need to build and paint an army for it. So you will see them on here until February. After that it will be mostly elves (seems like I have painted nothing but High or Dark Elves for the past couple of months.) and any commissions I take on from here. You will also see some Warmachine, Wyrd and maybe just maybe some 40K models from me as the year goes on. Anyway I have rambled enough. To the pictures!

Here are some of my more recent commissions and also pieces of the two armies I completed in less than a month for a personal tournament in 2011 and 2010. I will let the pictures do the talking (sorry some of them are a little rough around the edges as the pictures were taken a while ago before I learned to take decent pictures)
