3/4/15: Showcase: For Sale House Terryn Knight Titan

Howdy folks!

After selling the Nurgle army, I picked up some fun projects to work on in between commissions and in my spare time (since when do I have spare time?!) Of course, I had to get a Knight! This is now the 24th Knight I've done since the kit came out last March, and I'm not sick of them yet! Enough chit-chat, more pictures!

The House Terryn Knight in all his glory! It's been a while since I painted House Terryn, but its always fun!

Of course, both guns are magnetized for max optimization!

Detail on the lower legs and tabard. The Tabard iconography was taken from the Knight transfer sheet, the Baneblade transfer sheet, and the Ork transfer sheet, of all places!

The cog symbol was stenciled on, while the aquila comes from the Knight transfer sheet. Gotta love the primary color theme on House Terryn; that red, yellow, and blue really looks nice all together!

The white horse icon really pops on the Knights!

The top carapace detail, complete with lens effect on the cockpit window!

Look at that, he's barely dry and he's already out questing with my House Hawkshroud Knight! The rascal!

For those interested parties, the eBay listing can be found here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291398613919?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649

As usual, sorry for being so bad at updating the blog; obviously Smells Like Wargaming is still going at full speed, I just end up on my other social medias more! Next up is a White Scars detachment, lots of Tau, and more Space Marines, amongst other things!

Stay tuned!

2/10/15: Showcase: Adeptus Mechanicum Detachment

Howdy folks!

Its been quite on this side of the Smells Like Wargaming front, I apologize! I've got some stuff to throw together and share over here, I promise!

This time around, though, we have a group of Mechanicum forces to join the Reaver Titan I completed last October! This group consists of:

  • Archmagos on Abeyant
  • 3 Thallax
  • 2 Castellax Automata
  • House Raven Knight Titan
Enough chit chat though....

Family portrait!

The Archmagos on his Abeyant. The client wanted him with the hooded head and not the Dark Mechanicum character.

You can see he slots right into the base. Really enjoyed doing the displays and tubes of blood.

Beneath his hood, he's still human! How much so is up for debate....

The Thallax cohort; the hazard stripes denotes the special weapon, and all of them got decals to denote squads.

The duo of Castellax; again, like the Thallax, they got decals denoting each one, and got some extras to fill out their big shoulderpads.

The mechanicum decal comes from the Forge World Iron Hands transfer sheet; a must have for anyone working on Mechanicum, Iron Hands, or even Imperial Knights!

And the big boy, a magnetized House Raven Knight! Lots of fun on this one, finally found a shade of red for the airbrush I'm happy with!

And with the Thermal Cannon!

The client wanted the bare mech-skull look, which let me spend some extra time on the eyes and cables on the head.

Gotta love that hazard striping!

The checkerboard pattern comes from the Ork transfer sheet that comes with GW kits; saves a lot of time!

Mechanicum Automata clash with the servants of Nurgle!

Castellax take on a fell Helbrute of Nurgle!

The Archmagos and his Thallax bodyguard advance under the support of a House Raven Knight Titan!

I can't say enough how much I enjoyed painting these models! The thallax and castellax go together beautifully, and paint up just as well! The Archmagos has a lot of extra little details that really makes painting fun as well!

Whew! This week slows down quite a bit on the painting side, with a daytrip tomorrow, an early Valentines Day with the girlfriend, and Genghis Con on Saturday! I've got a post planned for my entries on Thursday, so stay tuned!

1/20/15: Finished: Sons of Malice Chaos-Aligned Knight Titan

Howdy folks!

So since the Knight model came out last March, I believe I've had the pleasure of working on almost two dozen of the beasts, either as commission pieces, for sale projects, etc. I love the model, they're amazing to work with, and with the transfer sheets, look great when done correctly! This Knight, however, is a departure from all the other ones I've had the pleasure of working on!

The model arrived with some conversion work done already, namely the Lash whips on the arms, as well as the Maulerfiend head on the Melta Cannon. I had a clear idea on where I wanted to take this model, and I immediately set to work!

Both guns are magnetized. Also not entirely sure why one picture has a warm hue and the other a cold hue...

Eye see you! You can also see the chains added to the neck area; the hooks are from the Chaos Vehicle accessory sprue.

The spikes are Carnifex and Hive Tyrant scything talons that were inserted into drilled holes and cut off at the end to fit the carapace. The hatch was bent to appear like it'd been wrenched open, and the icons are taken from various kits.

The Sons of Malice are renowned for hunting other Chaos Warbands, only aiding them if it helps their end goal of getting their homeworld back.

The Sons of Malice skull was freehanded on the shoulderpad, then weathered to match the rest of the model.

Most of the decals were taken from the upgraded Chaos Marine transfer sheet; theres some really nice ones on there!

Lots of jeweler's chain was added for a barbaric, rusted, and ancient look. It was painted off the model, then glued on, and finally weathered to match the rest of the model and to give it a rusty appearance.

Lysander and his bodyguard move in to annihilate the rampaging Knight! (Rolled the dice for it yesterday, and Lysander's squad won out!)

What a wonderfully fun model to work on! I may need to do more Chaos-aligned Knights, maybe with a more Dark Mechanicus theme? We'll see! Next up is a House Hawkshroud Knight, hoping to get him entered into Genghis Con this year! Expect pictures of him in the next couple days!

8/8/14: Finished: The Independent Characters' House Hawkshroud Knight Titan

Hey folks!

As promised, more pictures of what I've been working on the last couple of weeks (for those of you who DONT follow my Facebook and Twitter!). For those of you who don't know, I've been a sponsor of The Independent Characters for nearly three years now. They're easily the best 40k gaming podcast available right now, and the fact they're over 100 episodes now proves that! On episode 104, Carl mentioned he had a Knight Titan sitting in a box and needed to get some paint on it! I dropped him an email and, soon after, the Knight was sitting in my studio instead! Enough chatter though, lets show it off!
\

The Scheme is a modified Hawkshroud scheme with a Howling Griffons scheme and insignia. GW doesn't make the decals for the griffin shoulderpad anymore, so it was up to some trick freehanding work to get it done!

And Carl's completed Knight in all its glory!

The yellow turned out really nicely. It was based with brown and grey to create initial shading, then sprayed white. Once the white was dry, it was sprayed with yellow to get the smooth look you see here!

The freehanded griffin symbol! I'm incredibly happy with how this turned out, as was Carl!

The decal work really makes these models, as it breaks up the huge tracts of color and adds detail.

The Berserker helmets were added to tie into Carl's World Eaters army!

You can see the metallics were tinted purple to tie back into the yellow and red. Thats Color Theory folks!

And both guns are magnetized for total optimization!

I had a lot of fun with this one, so much that I may do a Hawkshroud Knight for my own personal collection next, but we'll see!

Alrighty, next up is a Nurgle Daemons showcase, as well as more Knights and some Necrons! Stay tuned!

4/27/14: Finished: House Cadmus Knight Errant Titan

Hey folks!

Hope you're not sick of Knights yet! I was hoping to have this bad boy finished last night or this morning, but Papa Nurgle had other plans. Food poisoning sucks! I finally managed to scrape myself outta bed though and get this bad boy all wrapped up!

As I'm planning to keep this one (we'll see how long that lasts!) I went all out on weathering this guy. I could probably go further with more weathering powders, but for now, I think he works. Base is a mix of Cities of Death building pieces, some urban barricades, Vallejo black lava, and some sand.

The blood drop motif is a nice touch across the model. Drip drip drip!

All the weathering was done with my sponge-weathering technique! Quick, easy, and realistic!

Love the boar motif! That bright yellow shoulderpad section certainly draws the eye as well!

That lens at the top is always fun to paint too!

Well folks, this is my last blogpost while in Durango. The last five years have presented me with some very interesting opportunities here, but with graduating last May and the work I've been putting into Smells Like Wargaming, its time to move onto bigger and better things! Expect some shots of my current personal project, as well as the start to the Legio commission! Lots more Knights coming down the pipeline shortly, so stay tuned folks!
