7/3/15: Showcase: Salamanders Drop Pods Commission

Howdy folks!

Close on the heels of the new Space Marines codex comes a couple weeks of Space Marines commissions!

First off is a set of Drop Pods for a Salamanders army! These kits look so good when they're all done up, it's a shame they're such a bitch to put together! These guys were done to match a client's existing Drop Pod with some artistic tweaks on my end.

The green washed out a little in the pictures, but the blending turned out really nicely with the airbrush!

I opted for a little more weathering, especially on the inside of the doors, as well as decals and the chevrons on the inside of a couple sets of doors.

Unfortunately I don't have any Salamanders in the studio, so the Imperial Fists took the pods for a test spin! Looking good boys!

Next up is 1850 of Iron Hands, complete with plenty of Techmarines and Dreadnoughts!

Stay tuned!

11/16/14: Finished: Vulkan, Primarch of the Salamanders

For the God-Emperor!

I've loved Forge World's Primarch models; personally I'm waiting for Rogal Dorn, but I love Horus and Angron so far, and the other ones are still beautiful models. That's why, when I got the chance to work on Vulkan, I jumped on the project!

And, let me tell you, he's a beast!

The model is three major pieces; Vulkan on a 40mm base, the 60mm scenic base, and a pillar piece that conceals the back of the 40mm base on the scenic base.

Vulkan is DRIPPING with detail! I opted for a redish maroon leather color to compliment the green, and I did most of the details in either bone or brass; only the shoulderpad got a painted flame instead.

I love working on skintones and faces, and his is beautiful. Forge World's detail is mind-blowing!

Vulkan wears that cloak so well!

And, for those of you interested, here's a scale shot next to one of my Assault Terminators. Even Terminators look tiny next to him!

And the scenic base! I wanted to have two fallen Salamanders on the base, rather than traitor marines, to give the scene a sense of danger and urgency, like Vulkan is stepping down to save his children.

Lots of weathering powder give everything a dusty, urban grit feel!

I can't wait to work on more Primarchs, I've got a Horus coming soon, and I'm in talk about another primarch, so stay tuned for more!

1/19/12: Finished: FW Bray’arth Ashmantle Venerable Dreadnought

Hey guys!

So I sat down after finishing Magilla’s Green Knights, and got right into my next set of commissions. This guy’d been sitting on my desk a little longer than I like to keep commissions, but I think he turned out worthwhile.

For those of you who don’t know Bray’arth, he’s in Imperial Armour 10: Badab War Part 2. He’s a little more than a Land Raider, Venerable, has the old Living Metal rule, and is armed with Dual DCCW that can be either 2 Heavy Flamers or a TL Meltagun. In other words, he’s cool. Not broken, but cool.

The model’s even cooler!

The head sits really low, compared to the little rim around the outside of it, so I couldn’t paint his eyes.

Really happy with the DCCW claws, his pose gives him a menacing look, as well as dangerous. Arms are magnetized as well.

And, an idea of size. He’s a little taller than a regular Dreadnought.

That Khorne Berserker won’t know what hit him…

Next up, Inquisitor Karazmov!
