This project was just too much fun, I had to blow through it! When my client came to me looking to get Erebus painted, I knew I was going to have a blast. Its a beautiful model, just dripping with the detail Forge World is known for! Lets cut to the pictures, shall we?
My client is using the model as a generic Word Bearers Dark Apostle, so I ended up going back over the armor trim with silver, as I'd gone with the Forge World scheme of a brass/gold color.
Just realized I'd missed the skull on his backpack; that will be done like the other skulls and marbling on his armor. I was a little apprehensive on the contrast color; I opted for a lime green on the Crozius and plasma pistol, but it was a toss up between that and ice blue. Client really likes the green, so its a win in my book!
The detail in his face is just incredible, though it made me opt for a different scheme and style of painting. I basecoated it with a mix of Rhinox Hide, Space Wolves Grey, and Pallid Wych Flesh. Pallid Wych Flesh and SW Grey were then overbrushed on the face to color, yet still maintain the tiny carvings in his head. A final highlight of Pallid Wych Flesh gave him the, well, pallid skintone I was looking for. The eyelids were painted with SW Grey, and the eyes hit with a very light blue-grey from Vallejo.
Man, its hard enough keeping those cultists in line, now Erebus has them all riled up...
Love quick, fun, interesting projects like this! Got a commission of 3 Blood Angels characters coming that will really get the creative juices flowing! Next up is wrapping up the Wraithknight, then its on to Tyranids, Blood Angels, and Starship Troopers!

Looks fantastic! Have you ever painted one of the Forge World Eldar Avatars? Would you like to? 8-)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I haven't had a chance to paint an Avatar yet, but I'd love to! Drop me an email and I bet we could get something working there :)
