So I’m back in the swing of things painting. My desk is starting to look like a giant pile of banana peels…
This army’s gonna look sick when its all done!
Anyways, I figured I’d share my recent successes with Chaos Marines, and get some feedback from my loyal Smells Like Readers!
Now, I’ve never considered myself an amazing 40k player, but I understand how to get an army to work on the tabletop, as well as how they run and what style the army needs to be played as.
Seeing as I haven’t lost a game yet at the FLGS, I’d like to think I’ve been doing something right, especially beating Grey Knights, Blood Angels, Guard, and Space Wolves consistently.
So here’s my first list, 1000 Points.
HQ
- Daemon Prince with Mark of Nurgle, Wings, and Warptime
- Chaos Space Marines with 2 Meltaguns, Icon of Chaos Glory, and Aspiring Champion with Power Weapon and Melta Bombs, in a Rhino with Extra Armour and a Combi-Melta.
- Khorne Berserkers (X7) with 2 Plasma Pistols, Personal Icon, and a Skull Champion with a Plasma Pistol and Power Fist, in a Rhino with Extra Armour and Combi-Melta.
- Summoned Lesser Daemons (X8)
- Vindicator with Daemonic Possession and Combi-Melta.
The Vindicator has been the only thing I’ve had trouble with, as it becomes just a target that gets taken out turn one or two.
My latest list has been a 1500 Duel Prince list.

- Chaos Bikers (X4), with Plasma Gun, Meltagun, Icon of Chaos Glory, and an Aspiring Champion with Power Weapon and Melta Bombs.
- Vindicator with Daemonic Possession and Combi-Melta.
Again, the Vindicator remains a huge target, and usually doesn’t get to shoot.
I do have a 2000 point list drawn up, I just need to decide if it’s the direction I want the list to go.

Again, the Vindicators just feel like they won’t do anything. I love S10 blasts (must be from being a Guard Player first…) but they’re kinda slow for an army that needs to move up to work. I’ve played around with two things to replace at least one of the Vindicators:
1) 2 Obliterators (150 points): I hate the models, so I’ll be building my own, but they’re so good, it might be time to bite the bullet and just build them.
2) Drive-By Havoc Squad (225 points): 4 Havocs with Meltaguns and Icon of Chaos Glory, with an Aspiring Champion with Combi-Melta, in a Rhino with Extra Armor and Combi-Melta. Obviously, I’d have to shave points out the army to do this, but the idea of a unit that can put out 4 Melta shots regularly and even 6 in one turn would be nice.
I have a Terminator unit sitting on my shelf, as well as a Land Raider just chilling in a box, so I could try to fit them in, but I just don’t like the Termicide tactic.
So I’ll ask you guys. What direction should I go past 1500 points? Oblits? More regular Marines? Termies? Havocs? I’ll take everyone’s suggestions into consideration!
Back to painting some Imperial Fists!

Honestly, Granesh, I'd wait. All the rumors are pointing to new Chaos Marines very soon. You may be getting some amazing new units (rumors about Alpha Legion are cool) and the sixth edition/chaos codex rules changes may cause you to rethink your choices if you make them now! :)
ReplyDeleteI have thought about that, kelann08. If all the rumors about the Alpha Legion are true, I'm gonna be one happy Chaos player! I just picked up the new Chaos Marines and Rhino box, so that may be my last purchase for the Alpha Legion for a bit.
