Painting: AdMech Techmarine; Framing Posters and Combat Patrol

Hey guys,

Sorry for the slow weekend of posting. I made a family trip yesterday and some other events prevented me from getting any work done. I did pick up Rynn’s World by Steve Parker yesterday, and I must say, I’m loving it so far!

First off, I’ve gotten more commission work done than these pictures show. So far, I’ve got 2 Blood Angels Devastators, 2 Inquisitorial Storm Troopers, a terrain piece, and the Techmarine done. Hoping to finish the Devastators tonight, and get the Blood Angel Terminators finished the next evening or Wednesday. Anyways, pictures!

There’s a TON of detail on this dude, from the purity seals to the screws and cogs on his armor. I’m really happy with how he turned out, lets just hope none of those arms pop off…

I also had a chance to get my 40k Posters framed. Less than $10 at Wal-Mart, I sprayed the Cardboard backing with Black, then, after it dried, I got the poster framed!

Just looks a little nicer and keeps the posters cleaner and neater. These will be accompanying my ‘ard Boyz 2007 poster I have back to Durango to add some flare to an otherwise boring apartment.

Alrighty, on to some gaming. I don’t believe I’ve stated it here, but for all intents and purposes, barring any unforseen financial problems, WE WILL BE AT ADEPTICON 2012! I’m hoping to get some sweet T-shirts going, maybe some dice, some business cards, the whole shibang! Plus you’ll get to meet me!

Ehrm, anyways, rather than play in the GT, my plan is to rock up to Combat Patrol with a hyper-painted force and see how I do. My favorite list I’ve pulled out so far is:

400 Points Buzzgob’s Boyz

  • Big Mek with Kustom Force Field
  • 11 Shoota Boyz with a Big Shoota, mounted in a Trukk with Extra Armour.
  • 12 Shoota Boyz with a Big Shoota.
  • 12 Slugga Choppa Boyz with a Big Shoota in a Trukk with Extra Armour.

Really fun list to play, though I already see the problems. My thoughts are to drop the second Shoota Boyz squad, and to add 2 Nobz with Bosspole/Power Klaw, just to keep them from hitting things like Sentinels and stopping. The bosspole will also keep the Boyz around. If I do that, I drop to 26 models and 398 Points. My only concern with that is whether or not that’ll be enough Boyz to keep everything alive. I’ll have to test it.

The group would also let me do some modelling and painting work on a group of models that would look great on the tabletop. I’d love to get the Buzzgob model as my Big Mek, and the boyz would be done up in Evil Sunz/Speed Freeks colours, and modified to look like Buzzgob’s personal aides.

Also, my buddy Jimmy deGriz is wanting to run a NON-HYDRA guard Combat Patrol. Fair enough, though we’re having some trouble writing one up. The last list was (no laughing, it was a good idea):

  • Rough Rider Squad with Plasma Pistol, Flamer, and Plasma Gun.
  • Rough Rider Squad with Plasma Pistol, Flamer, and Plasma Gun.
  • Veteran Squad with Shotguns, Flamer, and 2 Plasma Guns, in a Chimera with Hull-Mounted Heavy Flamer.
  • Scout Sentinel Squadron of 2 Sentinels with Multi-Lasers.

The Idea of the Rough Riders were to advance fast up the sides, ripping apart infantry and damaging Tanks. Unfortunately, my Big Shootas ripped them apart turn one, as well as the Sentinels. The Veteran Squad did their job, wiping the Slugga/Choppa Boyz Squad with their Flamer and Chimera.

So any suggestions on a Guard Combat Patrol list would be nice. We’ve played with the idea of Ratlings, Griffons, and even a full Infantry Platoon. The biggest thing I see at this points level is that the largely neglected Orders System is practically useless, thanks to the 3 wound Company Commander.

Alrighty guys, I’ve got some errands to take care of, then I’m back to the painting table. More pictures tomorrow night, and hopefully the next step in my combat patrol list!

Granesh
